** Working w/producer/DJ Dr. Mario in creating a nutty mix from a collection of his amazing Hard Techno trax. Just uploaded the new mix, “Electro Shock Therapy 3.0 The Dr. Is In”… my 1st new post of 20-11… & the 9th Techno Mix in our series.
I love to paint pictures with my mixes. In this mini-excursion, Ex LA DJ/Producer, the amazing Dr. Mario tiptoes the fine line between Genius & Insanity in this mix of his original Deep Techno music.
There’s drama, pathos, humor & joy. It’s a little bit science fiction soundtrack, part video game track, plus maybe some “Dark Side of The Moon” 2011.
I can tell you it was a mind blowing trip sorting out his material & reworking it into a voyage of self-realization for this mix. Buckle up & enjoy this trip inside your mind. DJstuff
One of my favorite messages comes from Seal… “We’re never gonna survive unless We get a little crazy” from his song “Crazy.”

Now, to keep the juices flowing, here’s the latest Tron movie trailer…
And, in case you missed it, here’s the excellent Daft Punk (produced soundtrack) interview from Dazed & Confused….
Daft Punk talk about Tron: Legacy Soundtrack
Daft Punk gave their first long-awaited interview about TRON: Legacy soundtrack to Dazed & Confused.
“As soon as we saw the filmmaker was not trying to copy the first [Tron movie],” the legend that is Thomas Bangalter told them. “But expand it after almost 30 years, we thought it was interesting. Then we questioned ourselves as to whether or not it was something we could actually do. The most pressure we feel is always from ourselves, even in a project like this. I think that is why we took so much time before we jumped on board, so we could guarantee our freedom and room for experimentation in this environment – it’s a dream factory. Hollywood is at the corner of imagination and industry.”
“This project is by far the most challenging and complex thing we have ever been involved with” he underlined. “Coming from our background of making electronic music in a small bedroom, and ending up having our music performed by a 90-piece orchestra, with some of the best musicians in the world…We are lucky to have had the opportunity to experience some powerful moments artistically over the years, but recording this orchestra was a very intense experience.”
“The soul and emotion of [classical music] is so powerful that to like it is so easy – it’s just people think you need to be educated. I thought that myself for a long time, until I had listened to so many kinds of music, that one day I just tried it. But it’s not about learning…It’s about learning that it’s just there.”
Thomas stresses the timelessness of orchestral instruments relative to electronic tools. “A cello was there 400 years ago and will still be here in 400 years. But synthesizers that were invented 20 years ago will probably be gone in the next 20. Synths are a very low level of artificial intelligence. Whereas you have a Stradivarius that will live for a thousand years. In the past, we have worked with clashing genres like disco and heavy metal, and here we would do it with film scores…this idea of the ultimate retro-futurism.”
So is it right to assume that they find dance music less appealing than they once did? “For us, yes,” says Thomas. “We are definitely excited by music, but just trying to constantly experiment. And sometimes that means going with other art forms, because you think there’s more latitude to experiment with an orchestra than an 808 drum machine and synth.”
Has Tron: Legacy usurped the original Tron movie in the duo’s imagination? Not according to Guy-Manuel. “Tron left a strong imprint as a kid. I was eight, he was seven. Maybe I only saw it two or three times in my entire life, but the feel of it is strong even now, that I think the imprint of the first one will not be erased by the new one. It has a real visionary quality to it.”

I think that is why we took so much time before we jumped on board, so we could guarantee our freedom and room for experimentation in this environment – it’s a dream factory. The first single from the Dec. 7th Tron Soundtrack release is “Derezzed.” Here’s the video…
** 12/1 Grammy Nominations Announced
Eminem picked up his second Grammy nomination Wednesday night — for album of the year. “Recovery” is the best-selling album of 2010 and marked a major comeback for the rapper.
Also nominated was Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” — the second best-selling album of the year. Lady Gaga was nominated for the second time in a row for “The Fame Monster”; it was the sequel to her first CD, “The Fame,” which was nominated earlier this year.
In the song of the year category, a song that was too profane for radio is now a contender for one of the Grammys’ highest honors.
Cee Lo’s “(Expletive) You” was an instant viral hit but had to be changed for radio to “Forget You” was nominated, along with Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” (featuring Rihanna), Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now,” Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me” and “Beg Steal Or Borrow” by Ray LaMontagne.
In best new artist nominations, the Recording Academy nominated the 16-year-old heartthrob, Justin Bieber, for best new artist in a field that includes rapper Drake, indie artists Mumford & Sons, Florence & The Machine, and jazz artist Esperanza Spaulding.
Drake was eligible thanks to a change in requirements that allow previous nominees to be nominated for best new artist as long as they didn’t win.
One name noticeably absent from the field was Ke$ha — even though she had a platinum debut and top hits.
The Grammys will be awarded Sunday, Feb. 13, at Staples Center in LA.

** BEATLES !! BEATLES !! BEATLES !! BEATLES !! BEATLES !! **
11/16 – After decades of prohibition w/no Beatles music to download, iTunes finally has the Beatles catalogue !! Who will be the 1st DJ to produce a hit Beatles medley mix? Lots of chatter today down that Yellow Brick Road… I say look for 10 million downloads by 1/1/11.
** 11/22 – More BEATLES !! Apple says people snapped up more than 450,000 copies of Beatles albums plus two million individual songs during the Fab Four’s first week on sale through iTunes.
Apple Inc. says the best-selling Beatles album in the U.S. is “Abbey Road,” and the best-selling individual track is “Here Comes the Sun.” The Beatles Box Set, which costs $149, is No. 10 on Apple’s weekly iTunes top-10 list.
The Beatles’ music went on sale on iTunes on Nov. 16. Until then, the biggest-selling, most influential group in rock history has been glaringly absent from iTunes and other legal online music services.
(Looks like my prediction of 10 million downloads by 1/1/11 wasn’t that far off, eh?)
** 11/22 – On my Facebook this morning… “Swedish House Mafia – Well we woke up today with sore heads after an incredible day yesterday. We were so nervous we didn’t tell anyone but looks like it went ok!!!!! Happy Birthday to Steve Angello today too!!”
Happy Birthday, Steve from us as well !! DJstuff – SHM with Usher last night on the TV show…
** 11/24 BEP signed as 20-11 Super Bowl headliners…. + will.i.iam sez the group will do some stadium concerts in 20-11.
** 11/23 ”The Beginning” – The new album with plenty of dance beats from The Black Eyed Peas, which they wrote & recorded while on tour promoting 2009′s double-platinum chart-topper “The E.N.D.”
Will.i.am says the two albums are tied together thematically by their hits, “I Gotta Feeling” from “The E.N.D.” & “The Beginning’s” first single, “The Time (Dirty Bit),” which samples “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from the hit 1987 film “Dirty Dancing.”
“If ‘I Gotta Feeling’ was about someone who went out and said, ‘I have a feeling tonight’s gonna be a good night,’ what would that person say when they came back from that party? They’re probably going to tell you, ‘Wow, I had the time of my life,’ and that’s what ‘The Time’ is,” will.i.am explained.
“‘The Beginning’ is about taking ownership … of your life and not waiting for someone to give you the answers but to go out and search for those answers yourself,” he said. “We’re saying, ‘Don’t let the negativity rule you.’ Sometimes going out and celebrating is a departure. It’s a manifestation of your desire to live a happy life. Some people will say, ‘What the f— am I celebrating? I ain’t got no job. I just got laid off. I got to pay for my mortgage. So what the hell is there to celebrate, Mr. Will.i.am?’
”Well, you’re celebrating the fact that you’re alive and that you have a mind and that you know right from wrong. But you have to change your frequency. You have to change your outlook. You’re never going to achieve anything positive if you’re trapped in the negative. So what you’re going out and celebrating is that one day that will change, and that’s the beginning.”
** Here’s my take on the concept album, “The Beginning” at a glance…. Keep in mind, although each song stands on its own, like E.N.D., together all tell the complete & refreshingly positive story. ***** Ray Ford (djStuff)
The Time (Dirty Bit) – Current single… If all you remember about the song is the movie, “Dirty Dancing,” then you’re missing the essence of the SONG!! Here’s the rest of the story….
